I just found out the new and my deepest condolences to the family. I worked with Joe briefly as he was overseeing claims for one of my programs with AIG. He was a knowledgeable and personable guy. Sad to hear of his passing.

Dear Mr. Picha,
It was a true honour to have known and worked for your son. As all of the other posts here attest, he was loved and respected by all who were lucky enough to hear his travel stories - he was especially proud of his heritage - or share the golf course or a laugh over a pint at the pub. He was an ethical professional who cared sincerely about the policyholders whose claims he handled, wanted to ensure a thorough coverage analysis (our work) and as one of the other posts mentions, took a genuine interest in his professional connections with broker, claims professionals and counsel alike. He was also quietly spontaneous - we rarely had clients visit at our old Flatiron Building office, but Joe took the trouble on one of his lunch-time walks to "drop in" unannounced. He was interested in seeing the architecture from inside and we were pleased to show him around. Most recently in speaking with him over the phone during the holiday break, he remained in good humour notwithstanding what must have been a difficult hospital stay and, always the professional, he wanted to be certain before ending our call, to give instructions on one last file... We were all so privileged to have known him - as his AIG and other colleagues attest, a true professional and more than that, such a truly fine young gentleman. While it's likely still difficult, rest assured he touched many and you should be justly proud of having raised such a wonderful son to share with us. He will be very fondly remembered by all.
Marcus Snowden (and for all of us at Snowden Law Professional Corporation).

So sorry for your loss. Joe was such a great guy and I really enjoyed working with him for over the past decade. He was a joy to be around and I wish we had spent more time together but you always think you have all the time in the world to grab lunch or drinks. He was a fellow wanderer who loved walking over lunch and exploring downtown (and the world for that matter). We often talked real estate and travel, and I will sorely miss seeing him in the office or chatting over the phone. All the best to you and your family in dealing with this terrible tragedy...

My sincere condolences on Joe's passing. I will always remember my discussions with Joe regarding his vacation destinations and experiences. His sharing stories of his friend's family dog, and trips to Sable Beach with snow piled three stories high. His good humour, and kindness shown to all will be remembered.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Mr. Picha & Family,
My deepest condolences on your loss. I was shocked and saddened when I heard of Joe's passing.
I knew Joe as a kind, thoughtful, inclusive, and inquisitive person. Although we worked on different teams, Joe took an interest in my professional development, and often would invite me to his mediations. If I had a question, or was just curious to learn more, he would offer his time to listen and share advice. I also remember he had a fondness for cars and enjoyed attending the Canadian International Autoshow at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
I am forever grateful in knowing him, and will miss him greatly.
Sincerely,
Desmond Marryshow

Dear Mr. Picha & Family,
I am so sorry to hear of Joe’s passing. I just wanted to let you know that Joe will truly be missed at AIG! He made such a big impact on the company and was my go-to contact in the claims department. Joe was always a wealth of knowledge, responsive, and so refreshing to chat with. There are so many instances I can think back to where he went above and beyond to help everyone around no matter how long it would take him.
Sincerely,
Marie-Claude Leroux

Dear Mr. Picha,
I am very sad to hear of Joe’s passing. I wanted to send you a quick note to let you know how much I enjoyed working with Joe. He was very highly respected by all of our clients. They appreciated his direct communication style and pragmatic approach to settling very complex matters. Joe was always patient with me when I would ask (what I’m sure were very simplistic) questions on specific claims. Thinking back I can remember several holiday parties where he was the life of the party – happy to spend time with people across the company – in all departments.
You are in my thoughts in this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Lisa O’Brien

My deepest sympathies and condolences to you Mr. Picha and the rest of your family. May you have the strength and courage to endure this difficult time. I met Joe at Centennial College in my first year of college, we have stayed friends throughout those 24 years via Facebook. He always made me laugh and helped me with my studies. He was such a great person, you should be very proud of him. Several weeks before his passing I was unsure why he wasn't posting humorous crazy comments on my Facebook posts. I absolutely am grateful he got to travel and check so many things off his bucket list in the last several years. He was far to young. I will remember him fondly. Rest in peace Joe! See you on the otherside one day!

Dear Picha Family.
I am so sorry for the loss of Joe. It was shocking to us all. I have worked with Joe for many years and in the last 3-4 we had become close with our realization that we were both huge wrestling nerds. I will miss the way he would saunter over to my desk with that slight smirk on his face, lean over my cubical wall and quiz me on 80's wrestling. He was a huge fan of Ric Flair and would send me videos to my phone which always made me laugh.
He was a unique guy and I will miss him greatly.

Mr. Picha and family,
I am very saddened to learn of Joe’s passing and I am so sorry for your loss. I was fortunate to work with him for the past 10 years. He was pretty quiet and kept to himself, but once you started a conversation with him, you could see he was a very kind person with a good sense of humor. I enjoyed hearing about his trips- especially to Prague and St. Maarten. He loved sharing photos of his visits to Prague (they were beautiful). I remember how excited he was to show a video of himself on a beach in St. Maarten where he captured the airplanes flying extremely low above them as it was landing at the nearby airport. He really enjoyed his travels and sharing his stories. I will miss those conversations with him. I was only able to find this one photo with him (not the best, I know), but that was one of the times we went golfing with our colleagues. They were fun times. I will always remember Joe’s kindness and will miss his presence. May he rest in peace.
With deepest sympathy,
Rose Hortillo

Dear Mr. Picha and family,
Please accept my deepest sympathies on the loss of Joe. He was a fine young man and a true professional. Here at AIG Canada, we greatly valued his contributions these past dozen years and Joe was a close friend to many colleagues and those in the extended insurance industry. His is a light that has dimmed far too soon and much too young. He will be missed.

To Mr Picha & son...Please accept condolences from me (and my family). To say I am shocked is an incredible understatement. To me, your son/brother was one of THE most caring, compassionate and kind men I have ever met in my life. What started as a casual work acquaintance more than 20 years ago (!) turned into a long and gratifying friendship. Joe was quiet initially but the more we got to know each other, the more he opened up. I will miss his hearty laugh, great smile and welcoming hugs whenever we got together. I will definitely miss his random voicemail messages to my work phone, telling me a bizarre joke or a detailed description of a casual observation during his morning Go-train ride to work. I am blessed that he celebrated with us at my wedding so long ago. I loved that he just "dropped by" one day shortly after our daughter was born just because he was in the neighbourhood. I'll miss our drinks at the various pubs we attended. I'll miss our chats and text messages. I will miss him dearly. There is so much I could go on about but not enough time or space to capture it all. Please know he touched so many people, dearly. Being such a private guy, I'm not sure how much he shared with either of you about his connections and friendships. I trust that these postings here comfort you, even in a small way, knowing that he was loved by so many. ~ Kim (+ Austin & Emily)
