Obituary of Mrs. Mary Madryga
It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Madryga (nee Olenchuk) on December 9, 2020 in her 99th year.
After living an amazing full life, she is reunited with her beloved late husband of 62 years, Nicholas. Loving mother of Gary (Lin), Bill (Marian) and Nancy (Bill). Adored Grandmother of Bryan (Rebecca), Marilyn, Josh (Reva), Joanna (DeAndre), Matthew (Faye), Amanda (John), Leesa (Tomas) and Nicholas (Casandra). She was thrilled to be Great-Grandmother of Isaac, Sophie, Enoch, Gideon, Emily, Lily and another on the way.
Dearly loved sister of Ann (Harold) Spring and the late Nellie (Mike) Hollandy. Fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews. Cherished friend to many over the years.
Mary was the matriarch of her family and from an early age took on the role of caring for others. With her generous heart and hospitable nature, she always made sure everyone was taken care of. You could never leave her presence empty-handed. She always had food, a gift or some advice to give to you.
“Where there’s a will, there’s a way” was not only a phrase she spoke often, but something she embodied. This indomitable spirit made her a force to be reckoned with and kept her with us all this time.
She was an amazing cook and baker and shared that love with her family, passing down recipes she taught them to make. Additionally, she had a knack for growing plants, vegetables and fruit, using many of them to nourish family and friends over the years.
She was clever, creative and innovative. Always figuring out a way to make or fix things in her own special way. She used some of these talents to sew, knit or crochet many clothes for herself, friends and everyone in the family.
Through the good times and bad, she maintained a wonderful sense of humour and had the funniest sayings and best one-liners around. Often unexpected and with a dash of spice, she could make us fall over with laughter. Her playful laugh and smiling face will be something that we’ll always remember.
We are so very grateful for her meaningful life and all that she brought to ours. She will forever be missed. May her memory be eternal, Vichnaya Pamyat.
While the family wishes that we could all be together to celebrate her at this time, a private service is being held. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Philip’s Church Memorial Fund would be appreciated.
