Obituary of Mr. Wing Hong Yan

YAN, WING HONG (WAYNE)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Wing Hong (Wayne) Yan on November 21, 2020 at home in Scarborough, Ontario. Wayne is deeply cherished by his wife Teresa Lai Ying (nee Chow) with whom he shared a 66-year journey together.

He is survived by his children: Anne (John); John (Linda); Peter (Leah); and Lucy. As a beloved Grandpa, he will be fondly remembered by Michelle (Stephen), Bryan (Sarah), Sarah (Marko), Scott, Mylana, Rakeem, Dylan and Coltrane. He was also Great-Grandpa to Chloe, Evelyn, and Sofia.

Born in China in 1926, Wayne arrived in Canada in 1962 with his young wife and family to begin his North American adventure, that saw him working in the restaurant business in communities large and small across Canada and the United States. In 1977, he returned to Toronto as a restaurant owner until his retirement.

Quiet and hardworking, Wayne leaves behind the legacy of an extended family that fully embraces and reflects the broad diversity of his adopted country. We will all miss him dearly.

Due to the current COVID related public health directives issued by the City of Toronto, the private service on Monday, November 30, 2020 from 10-11 am to celebrate Wayne’s life is restricted to immediate family only. Interment will follow shortly after 12 pm, at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery (8361 Yonge Street, Thornhill, Ontario)
