Obituary of Ms. Margaret Alvarez-Benjamin

Margaret Esme Alvarez Benjamin, passed away peacefully on Wednesday June 24th, 2020 at St. Joesph’s Hospital. She was born on January 19, 1955 to Rupert Alvarez and Lucy Athanas-Alvarez (both deceased) in Trinidad and Tobago. As an adult, she migrated to Canada, where she married John Benjamin. She was the devoted mother of Keron and Shakila, as well as the proud grandmother of Shaqwon and Savion. Margaret was survived by her three siblings Maureen, Clive and Christine, as well as her former spouse, nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends.
Margaret worked at the Hilton Toronto for 26 years. Her role as a front desk agent and operator gained her respect and admiration by her peers and superiors. Margaret was also a devoted member of the UNITE H.E.R.E Local 75 Union Chapter, representing as the shop steward for her front desk department. Her dedication to standing in solidarity with her colleagues contributed to ensuring a safe and fair work environment. She was a carnival enthusiast, and a talented baker and cook. Known as the life of the party, her jovial personality caused her to obtain the nickname Twinkles.
Margaret’s funeral service will be held at 1pm on Friday July 03, 2020, at the Ogden Funeral Home. As a result of the Covid-19 restrictions, the service will be private allowing only immediate family to attend.
