Obituary of Ms. Phyllis Maude Whyte

Please share a memory of Ms. Phyllis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with a sad heart that we announce the passing of Phyllis Maude Whyte. She was born in Westmoreland, Jamaica October 2, 1926 and passed peacefully on May 14, 2020. Phyllis was selected among the first 100 women to migrate from the Caribbean, to work as domestic workers in Canada in 1955. Her success against the odds of winter and racial climatization, pioneered the Caribbean migration process to Canada. Formidable in her faith, she simultaneously discovered First Baptist Church Toronto, and served with a dedicated passion until her passing. Her educational ambition led her as an OR Nurse and proudly retired from St. Michael’s Hospital after 32 years of service. Phyllis is survived by her only beloved daughter Patricia Grey, three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and youngest brother Ranel Whyte. Missed but not forgotten, may she Rest In Peace.
