Dear Jackson Family:
First of all, let me say how very sorry I am to Davids family. You have lost a cherished Husband, Father and Grandfather.
I also know David from our Scarborough Museum "family". David was a big part of our Volunteer group, and whether he was gardening, talking to the children, or at a meeting surrounded by many ladies(!), David was always present with a smile and a laugh. A wonderful memory for me is when he was dressed in his amazing costume, looking so very handsome, ready to interact with visitors to the Museum in such an easy way!
I particularly will always be so touched by his stories of his own family history, how they came to Canada, and by his stories of family in Wartime.
He certainly led a very full and varied life. I will miss seeing him, and chatting to him. He was a special man.

Papa, you will be missed greatly. I will always cherish the great times we had together. This included several family gatherings, "pioneer" nights, trips to the Scarborough Bluffs, going to the museum, going to Blue Jays games, watching the "Music Man" musical together in Uxbridge, gardening, going to the Bobcaygeon Fair, my high school graduation, etc. I will also miss your stories, infectious smiles, and sweet laughter. You have also been an incredible role model for me and influenced my love for baseball, hockey, cycling, racquet sports, music, travelling, and border collies. Thank you for all that you did for me, and you will always be in my heart. I was lucky to have such a caring, kind, and inspirational grandfather. I will do my best to honour your memory daily.
Love Daniel

My heartfelt condolences to David's family. I've known David for 10 years when he would volunteer at the museum. He was sincere, funny and a great mentor. He will be missed by everyone.

Dad,
I cant begin to count all of the memories we've made together throughout the years. You were the heart and soul of our family. You made everything fun from camping trips to ice rinks in the backyard. You taught me so much, from how to throw a ball to how to be a dad. You were an inspiration to all of us, even people who had never met you were inspired by me telling them of my dad who was playing badminton and doing push-ups at 92 years old. You lived your life fully right until the end and I couldn't be prouder to have been able to call you my father.
I cant picture life without you but I know we will work to honour your memory every single day.
I love you dad, rest in peace.

Dad, it is difficult to put in words what you meant to our family and me, but I have nothing but wonderful memories because of you. Growing up was so much fun. Some of things I remember doing with you:
- going to the Colonial Tavern to see live jazz on Sunday afternoons
- playing hockey on the backyard rink, especially on a Saturday night when we would play hockey during the intermissions of
Hockey Night in Canada
- throwing the football around
- playing softball and you becoming our coach
- the camping trips we went on when I was in Cubs (you were Baloo)
- the amazing trip to Calgary with the Scarborough Optimist Royals Marching Band (you were the President)
- swimming lessons at Centennial Area (you always bought us ice cream after the lesson)
- trips up north to see the fall colours and Kawartha (a Jackson tradition!)
- all the wisdom and advice you gave me along the way!
- wine-making in the cellar *we got to sample the Neapolitan nectar :)
- camping – although it rained 19 consecutive times, and many times we got flooded out and ended up in a motel (which was
cool - but thank God we discovered the Richardson’s cottage!)
- getting to play with you in the Markham Concert Band when you joined the percussion section
- going to all of those Border Collie sheep trials
- your retirement party with the great jazz band
- your 90th birthday party
- our road trip to the Bobcaygeon fair last September (what a wonderful day!)
- admiring you for all your volunteer work, resilience, and honesty!
- you being “Dancing Poppa” to Daniel and Adam
When I look at my own life, I soon realize the influences of you, Dad. My love of music, sports, gardening, wine, cooking, volunteering, love of family, and yes, Border Collies (I am on my second one). All of this is a testament to my father. Hopefully, we all can live life to the fullest into our 90s! You have been an incredible role model for me.
Dad, you will always be in my heart!
Love Ed

I first met Dave in 1948 (72 years ago) when we both worked for the Pearl Assurance Company. Dave became Field Supervisor and took me to meet our Agents and Brokers in Ontario. As time passed I was transferred to the Calgary Branch and Dave went to Montreal as Quebec Branch Manager. We both returned to Toronto in 1965, Dave as Ontario Regional Manager and I as Toronto Branch Manager. When the Pearl Assurance left Canada we went our separate ways and Dave joined Swiss Reinsurance Co.
Since Dave loved Jazz and other music I introduced him to Russ Welton, the President of the East York Concert Band. Dave joined their Percussion Section as a Drummer which I know he enjoyed.
We both had Memberships in the Honorable Order of the Blue Goose and also as Presidents of the Ontario Fieldmens Assoc.
We had a long lasting friendship with Dave, Barbara and Family and we will sadly miss him as a great Friend.

Our families did so much together for many many years. As far back as our pre-teens. Special memories from Marching band parades, family horseshoe tournaments at the cottage, family bbq's, family dinners together, New Years eve toasts at the cottage, vacations you spent with my parents. And so many more events together. We all enjoyed our Gin and our red wine. As you can see we became extended family to each other. Thank you for sharing your stories with us. As the years passed by and we lost love ones we became closer to you every year. Our hearts will always be with you The Bobcaygeon Kid. We will always be near.Love Sandra & Steve and family XOXO

Dad, Wow, where do I start, with a man, husband, father and grandfather of your caliber!
You've gone from being an orphan with your sister, Aunt Silvia, to flying to Zurich, Switzerland to receiving an International Insurance Award for your work at Swiss Re. Like I said wow!
You know I've thanked you and mom so many times for all the big and little things you do and did for us, for me. And that made me a better man, a better dad, and a better husband, thank-you . I already miss the Sunday night dinners at our place.
Don't worry about mom, she'll be well looked after. You taught us a lot but you never gave me the recipe for your Chicken Soup!
Relax and enjoy Dad, you've earned it. God willing, we'll be up there to join you some day.
Love eternal and miss you a lot Love Rudy

I first met Dave and Barb at a family BBQ with the Spencers. This gentleman told the most interesting stories of years gone by and was knowledgeable about the history of Scarborough. I truly enjoyed his company and conversations. He had a knack for gardening of both flowers and vegetables. I was fortunate to share in several family functions. The presents of Dave will be deeply missed. Take comfort in knowing that he is at peace.

Dear Dad, you have shown me, from a young girl, such unconditional love, what it means to care for others and how it important it is to be there for family, friends and the community.
You introduced me to so many wonderful things in life and to have an appreciation and respect for people, animals and the outdoors. You took me to my dance classes, swimming and traveling with the Scarborough Optimist Royals Band. You showed me the arts at a young age attending theatre productions, music and dance.
Camping was an adventure with treasure hunts, (map and secret candy treasures), camp fires, stories and lots of flooding. Best days. Cottaging, boating, hiking and an appreciation for volunteering, you inspired me to follow in your footsteps. You always supported me through my hopes, my dreams and my passions. You did so much and had so many interests. I am so thankful that our family went to church together and my family would come back to mom and dad's house for the best Sunday bacon and eggs brunch that dad made. I thank you for helping us buy the house across the street from you and mom and having your grandchildren grow up with you and mom. All the lunches, dinners, barbecues we shared. You teaching my kids to ride there bikes and play hockey and taking them to parks, trails and museums are only just a few things you did. I remember last summer we were the only two in the pool and our teeth were chattering from the cold, but neither of us left and I listened as I always did to your wonderful stories and what you went through in life. You were always there for the good times and rough times through the years. Every minute was important to me as you aged, I wanted to hear everything and never have any regrets. I thank you for the love and support you gave to us and how you always supported Paige through her Lyme disease battle. Being at the Legislature on May 1st, Lyme Disease Awareness, sitting in the gallery with Paige, Reggie and I, and holding your hand and being there through your own health treatments. I love and miss you so much dad. I am so blessed to have been raised in such a safe, loving, supportive home and for the love you have given Rudy, Reggie, Paige, Brewster and I. My love forever, until we meet again. Lianne xxxooo

It was the summer of 1991 and I was pregnant with my daughter Melina. I was so sick all day every day. We were on holidays at the Richardson's cottage on Papineau Lake near Bancroft. My father in law Dave went into a little bakery in Maple Leaf to buy bread and sweets. When he came back to the cottage he came in the cottage and called me out to the car to meet someone that wanted to meet me. When I went out to the car I found a teddy bear sitting in the passenger seat with a seatbelt on. He saw this hand made bear in a shop next to the bakery and he bought it for the baby. Melina still has this bear and it has been with her throughout many good times and bad. Dad was always a very beautiful gentle soul. RIP Dad

I cannot believe it has already been a week since I've been able to look into your big blue eyes or since I've heard your voice. You were always such a loving grandfather. I have learned so much from you over the years, right up until your last day. I sometimes close my eyes and let all of our memories flood my mind, you always brought so much joy to my life. I have so many regrets about all the things we did not get to do or say but I know I can't change the past. I will spend the rest of my life trying to honour you and your memory and I will find you in the millions of other little things like planting my garden or hearing jazz on the radio. I hope you will always know how much I love you. Rest in peace and until we meet again, I'll be seeing you in all the old familiar places.
