A TRIBUTE TO A WONDERFUL LADY.
Ma lived a life of simplicity, kindness and dignity. She basked in the many achievements of her children, grand and great grand children of whom she was very proud. Ma showed great appreciation and gratitude for the thoughtfulness and little things that others did for her. The makings of a truly wonderful person loved by so many.
Although we weren't related, she was Ma to Cynth and I, Stet, and Grandma to our children Len and Ingi.
Rest in peace Ma. You will be sadly missed by us but will be fondly remembered.
You can now face your Maker and proudly proclaim:
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful...." 2 Timothy 4:6

Well Ma, it is with great sadness, but fond memories I say, see you later. You always treated me as one of your grandchildren which always meant a lot to me. Our little quiet and wicked jokes at Deb's still make me smile.
I hope you are having a grand old time now full of happiness & vitality.
Until we meet again Ma - Never goodbye, but see you later

Dear Mrs Lovery,
Our memories of you shall remain as the True Matriarch, if ever there was one! Your unyielding love for your family has trickled down through the generations. Your dignity and even subtle humor were character traits one hopes to embody. Your legacy lives beyond your lifetime and that we were beneficiaries in some measure keeps us grateful.
Our trips to Toronto and attending Debs Lovery-filled dinner parties (which I must confess were ever so tame!!)- without your presence will be altered for all of us. Your spirit lives through your blood and for that we shall keep celebrating you.
For me you will always remain a woman of great magnitude.
And, from the Heavens above - please look out and keep singing for my Saheer and me as well.
Much love forever,
Ayesha.

Ma, this message is from my son, Liam Fuller:
I remember when I used to go to the home, and whenever you saw me, I could see the happiness in your face. It really hurt me when you were trapped, and wanted to go home, and it was difficult to see you always calling for great grandpa, it was so hard telling you he was gone. But we all hope that you are reunited with great grandpa, and having the time with him that you so desperately wanted. We will all miss you.

Dear Ma,
Saying good-bye is never easy, but I know you are in a better place now, and reunited with your one true love, Grandpa. I take comfort in this.
You had many gifts, and my favourites were story telling and your ability to cook, with love. You shared so many vivid memories of growing up in India, meeting Grandpa and caring for your 8 children. When you immigrated to Canada, you continued caring for your grandchildren. I remember spending my summers with you and Grandpa at your apartment. You often sent Andrew and I to Howie's to pick up odds and ends. Whenever I wanted to eat one of my favourites like tomato cutlets or chicken curry and tomoto rice, all I had to do was ask.
For as long as I can remember you were present at all my special occasions: childhood birthdays, my university convocation, my wedding, and all of Liam's firsts. While I will always cherish these memories, the time I am most grateful for was taking care of you when you needed me most.
You taught me many things and I am forever grateful for learning how to be a wife and mother.
Please watch over us from heaven, but please don't scare us in the night like you said you would!
I miss you dearly Ma. Know that your legacy lives on, and you are forever in our hearts. God bless!
Love your,
Lily Girl

Growing up in my family, there was so much love from and for my Grandmother, wherever she was present, there was an unmistakable presence of a powerful force of nature that brought us all together. I remember often walking by her portrait from her 80th birthday, and simply marvelling at how much love from so many people surrounded her. My grandmother had so much powerful love in her life, she created a family of such depth and bond I could often not even comprehend the extent of how many loving people I was connected to through her. Yet, in her presence, she became a conduit for all of these people to share this love exponentially. I always looked up to her, as I'm sure many of my family did, as an almost godly figure, carrying herself with grace and always treating everyone with the irreplaceable individual attention of a mother's love. Look how proud she was to have such a great, loving family. Look how happy she was, and remember what a strong force of nature she was to us all. Through her strength, we became a family. I love you Grandma, forever. Thank you for everything.

My fondest memories of Grandma will always be of me stopping by the house after my dental visits. As soon as I walked through the door she would greet me with an after school snack. She would then settle into the black leather loveseat to watch her soap operas... specifically General Hospital (which she also got me watching)!
Grandma was the chef of the family and the reason for all the family gatherings. She will be dearly missed but will live on in our hearts forever.

Aunt Joan,
you will always hold a special place in my heart. The fondest memory I have is you sewing my first Xmas dance dress. It was so beautiful, you told my dearest mother that I was going to crowned the Xmas Queen and I sure was! My mother often talked about you. So simple and kind.
I will second AJ by saying your fudge and fruitcake was the BEST so was your cooking.
Goodbyes are very hard to say. You can rest assure, you will always be remembered especially during the ghusti gatherings.
My brother Angus, along with my two children Travis and Bianca were very saddened by your passing. You and all my dearest cousins and Aunt Patsy will be in our thoughts and prayers during this very sad time.

Grandma was indisputably the most cool, calm and collected of us all. The best cook. The most loving and generous. The funniest. The best tuppoo player (how do you spell tuppoo?) I have a few favourite memories that I’ll share here. When we went to Goa, we were staying in a big house that her and Aunty Kay were absolutely sure was haunted (I agreed readily). One morning after a night of drinking, everyone was going to church. I of course, wanted to stay in bed and not go to church. And Grandma said...okay you stay here but I saw the ghost at the end of my bed last night and you’ll be alone with her. I got ready as fast as I could and came running behind them, I think she thought that was QUITE funny. Also the story about her saying “who died dear” still cracks me up to this day. I’ll never forget the time a massive tuppoo game came down to her and I, and I beat her (despite her reputation for cheating!). Oh also, when grandma started saying the rosaries for you...it was pretty much magic and whatever you wanted, you would get (this is how I passed my g2 test) Lastly, the thing I am most thankful for - and something I didn’t even really realize I learned from her, is my love for food and hosting people. I show people how much I love them through the food I make for them, and I learned that from years of watching my grandma and her children do just that. Thank you grandma, I love you!

Dan and I would like to send out heartfelt condolences to the entire Lovery family. It’s hard to imagine your family dynamics without the ever present influence of your loving Ma, and family matriarch. But her spirit will be felt every time your family cooks up a storm using her culinary influences, in every sentiment of unending family loyalty, and in the spirited banter and love of life in all your family gatherings.
We always felt welcome when we participated in your family had a party and this sense of inclusiveness must have come originally from Ma.
We are sorry we can’t help you pass through this immediate feeling of loss, but we will see you again on this other side of this pandemic, when I’m sure we will gather again, hug, laugh, and share a meal..comparing how ‘Ma used to make this...’

As long as I can remember, my parents have always hosted family party’s. Every celebration my mom would always make sure that my Nanny ma would be happy, she always made sure that all of Ma’s children would be there and as many other family members as possible. Every time Nanny ma would enter a room, she was showered with hellos and love from all of us, it always made me feel so happy every time I saw her. Though I am one of the younger members amongst our large family, I don’t have many memories with Ma. One memory I do have is her 90th birthday party. I remember at one point during the party, all of the young great grandchildren were to say a poem called Reasons Why We Love Ma. I remember my line was “Ma can teach us skills that we can’t learn in school, like having patience when scratching lottery tickets”. That poem made everyone in the room laugh and smile, including Ma. As I finish up this message I want to say that Nanny ma was one of the strongest women I will ever know and she lived a long, beautiful and happy life even in her last years. I am so thankful to have had you in my life for the past 15 years. Thank you for making our family what it’s is today and thank you for being the best great grandmother any one could ever have

I'm sure I don't need to tell anyone that I loved my grandmother.....I'm not one to tell people that I love them out loud....but rather, I show my love through my deeds....my grandmother was the same. Joan Lovery was a kind, gentle and fun-loving person. She raised 8 beautiful children. We all had a special connection with ma....but I will share mine. Ma would tell me to be honest and true to myself....she taught me the importance of family (although it took me awhile to learn this lesson). I learned to cook from Ma....and my mum....but it was always Ma's recipes. She would always make me special dishes - when I was sick or I had a craving. I remember coming home from school - and Ma would have "tea" ready for me. Usually parathas and jam....or toast and peanut butter....but it was an important ritual. My grandparents lived with us for many years...so she became a very important part of my life and helped to shape me into the person I am today. My husband Jim and I always hosted the "family gatherings" at our house (usually 50+ people) - but that was all for my grandmother....as I know how important it was for her to have her children and family around her. She wasn't really "there" in the last year of her life....but my memories of my grandmother.....good and sad...will stay with me always. Ma taught us all the importance of family....I certainly won't forget it. As we all struggle through this terrible pandemic....I miss my family - I miss the hugs. If life was normal....I would be cooking a Mulligatawny and some type of shrimp curry....and hosting my family for a remembrance dinner....I am sad that I can't do this...and I can't attend your funeral.......I will miss you Ma - Please pray for us from Heaven.....xoxoxo

Susan and I send our heartfelt sympathy to all the family.
Although I only met your mom on two occasions, I can see she must have been an amazing lady
to have brought up such a warm and wonderful family. Joan and your dad did a great job for sure.
It has been my pleasure having such good friends and knowing you all.
To the family, we are both saddened for your loss.

I remember every time I would go over to Penney grandma and papa's house Nanny Ma would always be sitting in her chair. Then when we came into the house she would always offer us cookies out of the jar Penney grandma kept in the kitchen. Nanny Ma would always let us take as many cookies as we wanted and would not tell anyone about it. I will miss you Nanny Ma you were the best great grandma I could have asked for and I will always love you.

My Great Grandmother who was better known as Nanny Ma was a very inspirational women. I remember when I was a young chap Nanny Ma would give me the most extraordinary cookies I've ever had. I was always happy as a kid to see Nanny Ma even though her and Aunty Kay would call me Gumby, as I used to cause a fair amount of trouble when I was younger, but she loved me in spite of it. Nanny Ma is also the main reason why I am good with big words. This is because as a kid I was always intrigued how Nanny Ma loved watching the wheel of fortune and got me to guess and learn the puzzles with her one day that were in the show. Nanny Ma was the one who introduced me to puzzles and to this day I love solving puzzles just as she did, like math problems and Rubik's cubes. I love my Nanny Ma and I strongly believe we can all collectively agree Nanny Ma was one of the biggest, or biggest inspirations in our life.
Love you Nanny Ma,
Sean (Gumby)

My Beloved Grandmother Joan (Ma) was the Matriarch to 8 children 10 grandchildren and soon to be 11 great grand children.
She loved us all with our funny quirks and eccentricities. I was the first Grandchild of Ma and she spoilt me rotten, protected me when I got into mischief, dried my tears when needed, made me laugh when I sad and scared, took care of me when I was sick, and always made special treats (fudge and cheese straws) but most of all loved me regardless of what I did; because of this I always had a special bond with her.
My grandmother was a second mother to me, always raised me up when I was down and believed in me when I didn't. When she passed away a part of my heart went with her and I know that even though she is not with us physically she will be looking out for us in heaven, for that is where such a good and kindhearted person goes. I believe that her having Alzheimers did not define who she was but showed us the courage and grace she possessed during those difficult years of losing her memory. She is now at peace and at home in heaven with my grandfather. I love you Ma and will always remember to have my tea at 3pm as you always did and do my lottery scratchy in the evening; maybe I will get lucky like you did. Till we meet again.
Love your Pussycat (Anna), Austin, Jessica, AJ, Sean and Melissa.

Even with the simplest of gestures, my grandmother had a way of making you feel special. I will always remember her making for me my own hot cross buns at easter time, it meant the world to me. I love you and miss you grandma but I know you’re in a better place. God bless.

Our MA was the best role model of being a generous and loving person. She taught me so much about life by being herself. Our family will miss her but she leaves behind a legacy. Rest in peace. We love you ❤️.
