RUPERT ALEXANDER GLEAN Rupert A. Glean, 89, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2020, at a long term care home, Sienna Living Altamont Care Community. He was born July 30, 1930, in St. George’s, Grenada, West Indies, the son of Vernon and Pearl (Smith) Glean. Apart from his schooling, Rupert excelled at being self-taught while working at autobody shops and General Motors, where he retired in the GM Van Plant in Scarborough. Having a determined and patient eye for detail that designed his career in the Van Plant, was previously cultivated in Grenada playing Carnival in Individual Mas Competitions for many years. This led to his acclaimed recognition for winning 15 years straight creating his own costumes. Some of these admired portrayals included President Abraham Lincoln, Napoleon Bonaparte, Prince Philip, Sir Walter Raleigh, T.A. Marryshow, Eric Gairy, just to name a few. Surviving, in addition to his wife Marcelle (Gibbs) Glean, are his daughter, Michelle Glean; son, Robert Glean and his wife Kimberly, of Markham; 2 grandchildren, Oliver-Anthony Glean and Kendric Glean; sisters Glory (RIP) and Maureen (US) and a host of nephews, cousins, and friends. Rupert loved to see a smile on a face and hear laughter in social environments. His charm and lifted spirit presented more in front of the purest of forms, little children. Spending time with close friends, going to church, dancing like no other on a dance floor and wearing his heart on his beautiful sleeve, he was a loving and caring, devoted husband, father, and friend, always keeping his loved ones closely protected. “To know him is to love him.” A service of remembrance has already been held 10am Saturday, April 4 at Ogden Funeral Homes and burial at Christ the King.
