Mrs. Marilyn Burton Young

Obituary of Mrs. Marilyn Frances Burton Young

Please share a memory of Mrs. Marilyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
With deepest sadness yet hope, we announce the home going of Marilyn Young, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Marilyn was born into a Pastor’s home in Killam, AB and was raised in Ontario where she in turn raised her family. She served in a number of church-based ministry settings as well as acting as an administrator for a long-term care facility in Toronto. In 2008 she married Herman Young of Edmonton and returned to Alberta. She is survived by her husband Herman, sons Craig (Wendy) Burton, Richard (Sandra) Burton, and daughter-in-law Melanie Burton, of ON, brothers William (Verna) and Richard (Charlote) McPherson of Boston, MA and Portland, OR respectively, and sister Carol-Anne (Eero) Ojala of Victoria, BC. Her Edmonton family includes, Sandra (Larry) Alexander, Julie (Dave) Wood, and Rob (Camille) Young. She was predeceased by her son Les Burton in 2007. Marilyn was also blessed with 15 grandchildren: Laura (Mark), Scott (Micaela), Emily, Matthew (Kyla) Kristen, Mitchell, Nick, Maddie, Cindy, Stephanie, Mark, Chelsea (Armin), David (Cayley), Robert, Reese; and one great grandchild, Joy. She delighted in being actively involved in their lives, taking a personal interest in each one. From cold hockey rinks to Sunday meals, a chance to spend time with Grandma/Nana was always special. Throughout her life, Marilyn was involved in her home churches, ministering recently in the areas of Griefshare and ladies Bible studies. As a servant leader and people person, she noticed others and often invested in them in practical and Godly ways. She had a great sense of humor and would often see the lighter side of serious situations. Marilyn enjoyed spending over 75 summers at the family cottage in Cobourg on Lake Ontario at Lakeshore Pentecostal Camp. The family would like to acknowledge the exceptional care and devotion of the doctors and nursing staff at the Devon General Hospital. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
