Obituary of Mr. Robert Meurig Davies

Please share a memory of Mr. Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Robert Meurig Davies, (Bob), aged 72, at home in Scarborough, ON, passed into the presence of his Lord Jesus Christ, early in the morning of Thursday Oct 3rd, 2019.

Husband of 52 years to Carole Baynham, father to Bob Davies (Michelle) and Bronwen Fox (Tim).  Beloved Taid to Michael, Thomas, Kayleigh, & Owain.  Brother to Mary; uncle to Colleen, Megan, the late Michael, and David.

Born in Cardiff to the late Rev. Emlyn and Betty Davies, Bob was brought to Canada on the Queen Mary at 3 years of age in 1950.  An Upper Canada College graduate, he married Carole at just 20 years of age, and as a young married man, and a young father, went on to complete his BA and CMA through evening courses at York University while working full days at TD Bank.  Continuing professionally at SES Computing, General Trust, Triathlon Leasing, and Arthur Andersen, His career led him to become a Certified Forensic Auditor and Fraud Examiner, and in his later years he was delighted to teach and help develop courses on forensic accounting at Seneca College.

Bob contributed in so many ways to the world around him, coaching Minor League hockey for Wexford in the 1970’s, softball at Maryvale in the 1980’s, and serving as treasurer and then vice-president of the Maryvale Community Association for 12 years before serving as president from 1990-92.  Bob volunteered in a variety of capacities in leadership, serving on the board, as Chair of Stewardship, and as Treasurer of Agincourt Baptist Church, as well as serving on the City of Scarborough Board of Health from 1991-1995, and supporting local candidates during elections.  In 1992 he received the Confederation Medal for his volunteer service for Canada.  As a member and past-Commander of the Agincourt Power Squadron, Bob loved boating and in these last years cruising with his wife, even looking forward to their next planned cruise just a month from now.

An avid reader and savant at cryptic crossword puzzles like his mother before him, awash with instructive insights, Bob’s breadth of personal capacity meant he could pull apart and repair an old Toro tractor motor, renovate and rewire the basement, play a variety of positions with the Agincourt Lions Hockey team, or comment intelligently on the politics of the day.  From New Years parties with lively dancing in the basement, to progressive dinners with good friends in the community, to Royal Caribbean and Welsh Facebook groups, Bob was surrounded by friends and family.

His beloved Wales and ancestry was close to his heart and pride, and what joy for Bob when recent DNA results confirmed the strength of that pedigree and his heritage in the valley along the River Dee.

Diolch yn fawr ein tad a'n taid. Rydyn ni'n dy garu di, a bydd colled ar dy ôl.
