Obituary of Sivavathani Baptist

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Sivavathani Baptist , on Monday August 19, in the company of family and the words of Psalm 91. She is survived by her loving husband John Prakhaladhan Baptist and children; Dylan Santhosh & Ananya.  Beloved daughter of late Kandiah Nagalingam (Justice of the Peace) and Satkunawathy and daughter-in-law of late Baptist Gnanapragasam (Assistant Collector – Sri Lanka Customs) and Mary Christine (Thangamma). She is the loving sister of Pangayachchelvi, Kalaichchelvi, Sandravathani, Naventhan and Vithiyavathani. Adored sister-in-law of Mary Grace, Silveira, Patricia, Upanesai, Prabakharan, Geethanjalie, Sivakumaran, Raveendrakumar, Thiyagalingam, Kavitha and Karunakaran.

With roots in Delft Island she was born in Kilinochchi. She attended Muruganantha College and was a Primary School Teacher, adored by her students and faculty.

Family and friends were Sivavathani’s passion and happiness. She was nurturing and kind to anyone who crossed her path and took pride in nursing life and joy into her children and family. Sivavathani had several hobbies, with an unmatched “green thumb”. Sivavathani loved without condition and gave without expectation. She loved the Lord and was loyal, steadfast and unwaveringly faithful. God loved Sivavathani and she loved Him!

Her compassionate heart and gentle soul weaved through the lives of many and her fierce strength and resilience will forever be her legacy.

Some women fear the fire, but Sivavathani simply became it.
