Obituary
Yonette Patricia Stephens (Sunrise Oct 4th,1966- Sunset June 10th, 2019)
Yonette Patricia Stephens, nee Bacchus a.k.a lil one and Coolie B to those who were close to her, was the 2nd of 4 children. She was born to Inez, and Walter Bacchus on October 4th,1966 in McKenzie Linden.
She received her formal education at the McKenzie all age school, and Christianburg Multilateral school. Yonette was very active in school; she was always involved in many sports. After leaving school she worked for Singh’s hardware store and later decided to start her own business.
She met, and married the love her life, Leon Stephens on July 22nd, 2000. Their union brought forth 4 children: Namely – Orin, Clive, Odette, and Ciara. Yonette was a very family- oriented person and loved kids. This became evident as she welcomed many other kids into her home and treated them as her own children. Yonette migrated to Canada in 2001. Since she came to Canada, she has been working for Ipex.
Caring, giving, and forgiving, welcoming and trusting are a few words that may be used to describe Yonette. She was fond of her grandchildren. She welcomed her daughters-in-law with open arms and treated them like her daughters. She always had wise and comforting words for them.
Yonette loved the lord. She became a member of the East Scarborough Church of God in 2014 and was an usher at the Church. She looked forward to Sunday worship. Her favourite song was “Break every Chain”.
Yonette’s health started failing in 2017 when she was diagnosed with cancer. She remained strong in the lord and her faith grew deeper. In 2019 her cancer returned. She suspected that the outcome was not going to be positive, but she still fought the good fight. She was determined to spend her last days in the holy land. Although she was ill, she travelled with Odette to Israel in May. Upon her return she was hospitalized. Yonette’s Journey on Earth ended on June 10th when she went home to be with the Lord.
She left to mourn her husband Leon Stephens, her 4 children- Orin, Clive, Odette and Ciara. Her Grandchildren Kimoni, Emery, and Navaeh, her sisters Janette, Yvette and Colette, her daughters-in-laws Sandra and Tara, and many other relatives and friends.
St Paul said in 2nd Timothy 4:7-8” I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race and I kept the faith, now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness.
Yonette has fought the good fight, she has kept the faith, and she has finished the race. Though we mourn, we find comfort in knowing she is in a better place. We know she will be seated at the right hand of the father.
May her soul rest in peace
