Obituary of Dr. Denis Kanhai

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Denis V. Kanhai on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at the age of 75. Denis passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at Sunnybrook Hospital. Devoted husband of 50 years to Lizbeth (Indra) and loving father to Jan (Sue), Neil (Cherine), Mark (Ragina) and Shawn (Faye). Proud grandfather to Matthew, Daniel, Mya, Adam, Jalen and Devin. Dear brother to Jean, Lynette and Joan. Cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Denis was born on October 27, 1943 in DeHoop, Guyana to James Kanhai and Pearl Iris Yhap. He graduated from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland in 1969. He trained and practiced medicine in both the USA and Toronto, where he enjoyed a long and successful career as a family physician. A skilled tennis player and an avid reader, he also enjoyed cycling, dancing and travel. Denis will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed.

A visitation will be held on Friday, May 31, 2019 at Ogden Funeral Home, 4164 Sheppard Ave. East, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Knox Presbyterian Church, 4156 Sheppard Ave. East, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Critical Care Unit (CrCU) at Sunnybrook Hospital.
