Obituary of Mrs. Bernice Crane
Obituary
Bernice Barbara Crane was born in Wortmanville, Georgetown, Guyana on 6 May 1923 to Felix Adolphus and Mary Alicia Langford (Miller). Bernice was the fifth child from this union of ten siblings. Her mother died when she was twelve and her Dad remarried twice and fathered five additional children.
In 1946, she married Vernal Archibald Crane (deceased), and they had five children – Barbara, Owen, Joycelyn, Alfred and Lawrence. Thereafter, she was blessed with eight grand-children – Kwame, Vernal, Thomas, Trazanna, Sean, Shannon, Shabiki and Kwesi; and six great-grand-children – Zahra, Osazie Destini, Beau, Khalil and Reese.
Bernice attended St Cyril’s Anglican School in Wortmanville, Georgetown and as an adult; she was mainly a Homemaker and an avid reader. She was however, also quite industrious and had two work-from-home businesses; one sewing and embroidering beautiful Chemise and Night Gowns for newborn babies; and another in which the family rented out Home Improvement equipment (Blocks and Jack Screws) which were used for raising houses.
For many years she was a member of the St. Sidwell’s Mothers Union and a local NGO called The Lodge Village Infant Welfare and Maternity League.
Sometime after her husband’s death in 1972, Bernice attended a Seventh Day Adventist Revival with her Sister Joyce and she subsequently joined that faith. In 1975 she migrated to New York, USA where she was involved in childcare. Then in 1988 she moved to Scarborough, Ontario, Canada to care for her youngest grandchildren.
Bernice was the family’s historian. She kept records of family events, specifically birthdays and anniversaries of all her nieces and nephews whom she treated as if they were her own kids. She kept in touch with all of her relatives and was always kind and generous with them all. She had a huge photo collection.
Left to mourn her passing are her five children, Barbara Crane Maynard (Neville Maynard), Owen Crane, Joycelyn Crane-Moore (Godfrey Moore), Alfred Crane (GayMarlene Crane) and Lawrence Crane; her grandchildren, Kwame Morris, Vernal Deinde(Smith), Thomas K Smith, Trazanna Morris, Sean Crane, Shannon Crane, Shabiki Crane and Kwesi Crane; Great Grandchildren, Zahra Deinde-Smith, Osaze Morris, Destini Deinde- Smith, Beau Crane, Khalil Morris and Reese Crane; Her siblings Joyce Elcock, Ulric Langford, Alma Ashley, Megan Barker, Joy Locke and Pat Woolford; numerous nieces and nephews; relatives of the Charles, Douglas , Eversley families, and others; Friends Elma Davidson, Hilda Soodoo, Sister Rock and many others.
