Obituary of Mr. Robert Folk
Robert Folk (December 15, 1926 – November 26, 2018)
A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Robert worked long days and weekends to provide for his wife, Eva (nee Janson – predeceased 1991) and his 8 children, Elizabeth, Susan (Wayne), Margaret (Cliff), Robert (Mary), Lawrence (Adreana), Raymund (Maureen), Cathy (Kelly), and Eva-Marie. He is survived by, and will be missed by his 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Beloved brother of Steven (pre-deceased), and Mary (pre-deceased). Robert was also loved as an uncle by his nieces and nephews.
Robert began his career at Loblaw, in the printing department, but his favourite job was spent as bindery foreman with the Life Underwriter’s Association of Canada, a job he retired from in 1991. He found much joy in a variety of passions, including listening to music, electronics, wine-making, puzzles, and reading, which, in his later years, always made for great discussions around the table. He took great pride in building the family cottage in Gooderham Ontario, which was a much-loved holiday destination for the Folk family and their relatives. He was always overjoyed when his children, and their families would stay at the condo in Madeira Beach, Florida, even after his age didn’t allow him to make the journey himself.
He was devoted to his faith and was always an active parishioner in his church. He lived a long, and fruitful life, and even though the last two years were a struggle for him, he steadfastly returned to the theme of thankfulness: for his work, his joys, and especially, his family.
