My brother Hopeton, or Curtis, as many people know him, and I, grew up in different circumstances and because of that I never got know Aunt Lucille the way he knew her, yet there never was a time when I didn’t feel like I did not know her, from the conversations he and I have had, over the years. When I finally did meet her I felt like I had known her for years and I will never forget how she welcomed me when I set out to discover and get to know her branch of our family. I was struck by her sense of humour, her sparkle, the love that she had for her family, her kindness and also her inner strength. I don’t know how much she was into cricket but to use an analogy from that game, Aunt Lucille has played a captain’s innings, one that has laid a solid foundation for her team, her family, that is, to build on. She has now moved on Glory and on my own behalf as well as that of the rest of the Munroe clan in Jamaica, I bid her Godspeed on her journey. May her soul rest in peace and may light perpetual shine upon her.
