Obituary of Mrs. Gladys Yorke
Born to humble beginnings on Compton Avenue, in depression era Halifax. She truly lived life to its fullest and grew rich in friendships, respect and in the love of her numerous community relationships. Surrounded by loving family and friends, our mother and nana passed away suddenly but very peacefully on a beautiful first day of summer in the heart of a city she loved – Toronto. At her bedside we all had on a dash of purple to match her lovely new scarf (her favourite colour) and all shared a splash of Captain Morgan’s Rum (she was a true East Coaster!) and said our last goodbyes. Many thanks to Dr. Lior Bibas, Joe and the full ICU team on the 4th floor at St. Michael’s Hospital for your care, professionalism and compassion during this difficult time for our family. Predeceased by husband, Howard Kirkpatrick Yorke, survived by Michael (Pat), Douglas (Lynn) and Paul (Darlene); grandchildren, Sierra, Tara, Christopher, Daniel and David. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation as Gladys was a breast cancer survivor of many years. Family will receive friends for visitation in Ogden Funeral Home, 4164 Sheppard Ave. E. on Tuesday, June 26th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held in St. Barnabas Church, 10 Washburn Way on Wednesday, June 27th at 10:30 a.m.
