I have only had met Betty once unfortunately when her son, my dear friend Joel John introduced me to her at the Skydome.
I can clearly remember her radiance, beauty and smile till this day, 25 yrs later.
I’m saddened to learn of her passing and equally as saddened to not have had more memories of her but that one time.
My deepest condolences and heartfelt blessings go out to her family and friends.

Today I am filled with grief and sadness at the loss of my precious friend, her name is Betty John. And although we did not see each other as much as we could have, my life and my music was better through meeting her. Betty John had a smile that would glow and shine upon the darkest of moments. She was an inspiration to me and supported my music with words that I myself will take to my grave. Words that delivered each and every time a message, that was unselfish and kind. To believe in myself and to never give up and she truly believed in my talents and I could feel her love. I will never forget how one evening she drove through a snow storm to see me perform with my band in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada. It was such a surprise. She inspired me each and every time we would meet as friends. Whether it was for lunch at the ‘Sky Dome’ or lunch at the 'La Dolce Vita' in Toronto, ON, Canada an Italian restaurant that I loved to go to and she would often meet me there.
Here is my prayer Betty and Joel her loving son, and to the extended family. “God, I know you see her. Today, would you remind her that you’ve not forgotten her”?
Joel, I can’t imagine the difficulty you are having to come to terms with in all that has taken place in the last few days, and with the passing of your loving mother. Joel I want you to know that I feel your pain.
Dear Joel my brother, if things were different I would love to be able to jump on the next flight to hold your hand and give you a hug.
For now I want you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
I love you Joel, I love you Betty.
May you and your family be comforted by the outpouring of love surrounding you. My thoughts are with you Joel, my prayers are with you brother at this difficult time. I am so sorry for your loss. She was an angel full of inspiration for others.

My sadness is overwhelming today. Betty always gave unlimited love. She always had lots of hugs to give. She was very compassionate and supportive towards others who were in need. She always had time to sit and listen to people when they had problems. She seize life and appreciated everything that was thrown/ in her life. I will remember her smile. Goodbye, farewell May seem forever that I’ll never get to see you again, but we all know that’s not true because I’ll see you in heaven And I’ll be able to say hello and love you and hear you say that to me again. I was a hard headed kid when you came into my life. You didn’t need to love me but you did. Always treated me like your granddaughter even when mom and Oggie went there separate ways. You were my second mom. You opened your home to me without question; without reservation. You treated me like the daughter you never had. When we lost my mom, we were both devastated and now, although I know you’re with her, my heart is heavy because I won’t be able to hop in the car and come see you. We won’y Be able to go shopping, eat roti, doubles or Chinese food together anymore. No more Popeye’s. I won’t be able to stir the batter while you’re baking Rum Cake.
