Gladys Isobel McDermott (nee McArthur)

August 12, 1928 – May 13, 2017

Grew up in Cabbagetown as the daughter of Irish immigrants Hester (Thompson) and Henry McArthur, and sister to Frank.

Gladys married (the late) Cecil (Buster) McDermott in 1948 after he finished serving in WWII, and enjoyed travelling and living in numerous locations both across Canada and in the United States while raising their two boys, Reginald (Reg) and Glen.

Later in the 1960’s she continued a career as a Registered Nurse and spent two decades in chronic care at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. She was actively involved in many churches and religious organizations, having been baptized in the Peoples Church.

In the 1990’s after retiring she obtained her Certificate of Pastoral Care and furthered efforts toward religious endeavours. She contributed actively at Crossroads Centre (100 Huntley Street) as well as Morris Cerullo World Evangelism.

Gladys was blessed with five grandchildren – two by Reginald and Carol (Richard and Connie) and three by Glen and Cathy (Sean, Stephanie and Patrick). Gladys was also great grandmother to six – two each by Stephanie and Jody (Jett, Siara), Richard and Jessica (Caellum, Ainsley) and Connie and Joe (Gracen, Jaylyn).

Although her mobility was hampered in later years she also continued to volunteer throughout the 2000’s, having spent 5 years with the Toronto East General Hospital. Gladys will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
