CHUNOO (GANESH), JULIA:
It is with great sadness that the family of Julia (Ganesh) Chunoo announce her sudden passing on
April 2, 2017 at Bayview Extendicare.
Julia was born on December 22nd, 1927 in Port Mourant, Berbice, (British Guiana) Guyana to the late Albert and Lillian Ganesh.
She was the wife of the late Fogarty Boysie Chunoo. Julia and Fogarty were married for 40 years and had nine children together.
In 1982, Julia immigrated to Canada when she was 55 years old. It took a lot of courage to begin a new life in a new country at middle age. Life in Canada did not start out as an easy one. Shortly upon arrival here, tragedy struck when her husband died. Julia had to begin working to support herself and her younger kids and she did this without complaint. She faced the many challenges of a single working Mom with her faith in God and her determination to make life better for herself and her family. She was very proud of the achievement of becoming an independent and self-sufficient woman.
Julia was very passionate about her family and church. Later in her life her church played a significant role. She became part of a circle of friends whom she treasured and whose company she enjoyed tremendously.
She loved the outdoors and taking trips up north but most of all she loved a good party. She was also a good story teller. She loved telling stories of her life in Guyana to her children, grandchildren and friends. One of her great passions was cooking and she was an excellent chef, especially in making the traditional Indian Dishes. Her lunches and dinners were very popular with her family and friends since in addition to enjoying the good food, she derived great entertainment from these gatherings.
Julia was very kind hearted and extended herself to others and with her generous nature, willingly opened her heart and home to friends and relatives needing a place to stay and/or a warm meal. She was well loved and lived life to the fullest enjoying her independence until a year ago.
Julia will be sadly missed by her nine children, 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She will live on in the hearts and minds of all those who knew her and loved her.
