Obituary of Bonnie Adams

ADAMS (Coates) Norene Yvonne (Bonnie) Died suddenly at the age of 81 in Toronto on Tuesday December 20th, 2016. The daughter of George Franklin Coates of Seaforth, ON and Margaret May Maunders of Brussels, ON. Bonnie was born in Brantford and spent her early childhood in Pickering.
In 1947, the family moved to East York where Bonnie attended East York Collegiate and
Shaw Business Schools. During her early career as a School Secretary, she worked at Selwyn Jr. P.S., East York, was President of the Secretaries’ Association and Secretary of the Teachers’ Bowling League. In 1971, she resumed her career working in numerous Scarborough Elementary Schools as well as Albert Campbell Collegiate. She edited the newsletter, served on the Board of the Scarborough Education Staff Association and taught an evening Business Course at Mowat Collegiate. Bonnie spent her final twelve years at Vradenburg Jr. P.S., retiring from the Toronto District School Board in December of 2000. Another career opportunity presented itself when she was hired as Parish Administrator of St. Luke’s Anglican Church, East York.
Married in 1957 to Donald George Adams at St. John’s Norway Anglican Church, she has been a member of the Church of St. Andrew (Scarborough) since 1961. At St. Andrew’s, she taught Sunday School, worked with “Modern Teens,” co-chaired Marriage Preparation Courses, was a lay reader and served on the Board of the Parish Council.
She is survived by one brother, Dr. Charles F. Coates (Diana) of London, ON and pre-deceased by brother, Dr. W. Robert Coates (Betty) of Thunder Bay, ON; her three children: Michelle Sinclair (Drew), Andrea Maidens (Scott) and Craig Adams (Gail); seven grandchildren: Christopher (Crystal), Dylan (Meagan), Ashley, Brent, Mitchell, Elliot and Jackson; two great-grandchildren: Joshua and Zayrah Rain and seven nieces and nephews and their families.
Visitation is at the Ogden Funeral Home, 4164 Sheppard Ave. E., Agincourt on Tuesday December 27, 2016 from 5-9 p.m. Funeral Service is at the Church of St. Andrew (Anglican), 2333 Victoria Park Ave. Scarborough on Wednesday December 28, 2016 at 2 p.m. (visitation one hour prior to service). Interment at a later date in Brussels Cemetery.
