Obituary of Susan Monahan
Please share a memory of Susan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Susan, aged 54, died peacefully at home on Friday, October 14, 2016 following a two-year struggle against an aggressive form of sarcoma. Predeceased by her father, Alfred Monahan, Susan was the beloved daughter of Marjorie and sister of John (Michael). She also leaves behind a close-knit extended family and dear friends in both Canada and Ireland. After graduation from Trent University (Hon. B.Sc. in Psychology) and Queen’s University (B. Ed.), Susan taught with the Toronto District School Board for some 25 years, where nothing made her happier than to be surrounded by young children in a classroom. She also served for several years as Secretary of the ETFO Toronto Occasional Teachers, and was former President of the East York Occasional Teachers. The family is grateful to Susan’s many formal and informal caregivers, and in particular to Stuart Daniel, Alice Godfrey, and Petal Samuel for their steadfastness.
A celebration of Susan’s life will be held at Ogden Funeral Home (4164 Sheppard Avenue East, Scarborough) on Saturday, October 22. An opportunity to visit with the family at 2pm will be followed by a service of remembrance at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, Susan’s wish was that donations be made either to Spinal Cord Injury Ontario (www.sciontario.org), or to the “Honduras Project” c/o Forest Brook Community Church (www.forestbrook.ca).
