Obituary of Phyllis Green
Please share a memory of Phyllis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Phyllis Maude Green, age 85, was surrounded by her loving family at Markham Stouffville Hospital when she transitioned into eternity on Sunday, September 4, 2016. Born in Friendship District, St. Ann, Jamaica on June 20, 1931 to the late Cyril & Ethlyn Iris Fraser-Green, she entered this world a conqueror. Doctors thought she would not survive infancy. However, she defied medical logic and lived a long life of love, generosity, strength, faith, wisdom, sweetness, righteousness, joy and cheer. In her mid-twenties she gave birth to her only child, a beautiful baby girl, Shamay Kemelle Williams-Blake. Little did she know that the birth of her daughter was the beginning of a legacy that includes four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom she shared close and personal relationships with. Always seeking ways to give and pour into her family, she often found a way to meet the needs around her before anyone even thought to ask. She was known affectionately by so many names: Gumma, Auntie Doll, “P” Green, G.G., Mom, Grandma, Miss Phyllis, Woman or Ole Gal. She embraced them all. Phyllis migrated to Canada on August 20, 1969 and worked with the Watkins family for two years. She later retired from Sunnybrook Hospital after working there from 1971 to 1996. She is also survived by her sister Rosalyn Green-Edwards and many nieces and nephews. May she rest in the arms of her Heavenly Father and – through the acceptance of Christ as our Saviour – we will surely see her again in Glory.
