Obituary of Romualdo Alcampo

In Loving Memory of Romualdo Santos Alcampo September 29, 1939 - August 15, 2016 Romualdo Santos Alcampo of Scarborough, Ontario, passed away peacefully at home on Monday August 15, 2016. He was 76. Omy, as he was known to his family, was born on September 29, 1939 in Pasay City, Manila, Philippines. Beloved son of Zacarius Rex Alcampo and Catalina Santos; brother of Juliet, Milot, Vicky, Paulette, Issy; nephew and cousin to many relatives in the Philippines. In 1968, he married his beloved, Divina (nee Garcia). He was a devoted husband and proud father of Jo, Roberto, and Catalina, and beloved Lolo of Cherylin. Romualdo immigrated to Canada in 1974 and worked at de Havilland Aircraft of Downsview, Ontario from 1976 until his retirement in 2004. Known affectionally as “Al” to his friends, colleagues and numerous young workers who he mentored. He was a proud member of the Canadian Auto Workers Union (CAW Local 112). A sensitive and creative soul, Romualdo loved to read and recite poetic verses, especially those of Jose Rizal, William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Robert Frost, Rumi, and Omar Khayyám. A lover of music, Romualdo sang and played many instruments including violin, piano, guitar, mandolin, and accordion. Romualdo loved storytelling, sharing good food, and knowing that his loved ones were happy. He was always willing to help a friend in need. His kindness, gentle laughter and “funny faces” will be greatly missed. In accordance to Romualdo’s wishes, his body will be cremated and his loved ones will gather to celebrate his life. A Memorial Visitation / Reception will be held on Saturday August 20th from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at Ogden Funeral Home, Sheppard Room, 2nd Floor at 4164 Sheppard Avenue East. Mourners are welcome to offer prayers, novenas, and masses at your places of worship in the memory of Romualdo Santos Alcampo. In the weeks to come, the family will honour the following traditions: August 24 to September 2, 2016 On the ninth day of Romualdo’s passing, we will offer evening prayers for nine nights, as in the custom of the Pasiyam. September 24, 2016 On the fortieth day of Romualdo’s passing, we will hold a gathering for family and friends. Details to be announced. August 15, 2017 On the first anniversary of Romualdo’s passing, we will hold another gathering, as in the custom of the Babang Luksâ. Details to be announced.
