Obituary of Gavin Pape
Please share a memory of Gavin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Gavin Monteath Pape MD - August 24 1951- May 5 2016. Gavin's innate curiosity, compassion and joie de vivre guided his choices in life, love, and career. As an accomplished and well respected physician he served as the Chief of Emergency at The Scarborough Hospital from 1995 to 2003 and was one of the first frontline soldiers in the war against SARS and was instrumental in leading the hospital through this crisis.
Gavin was a natural leader who challenged friends and family to embrace life and explore the world. He travelled with them to the Far East, Antarctica, and annually to his nesting ground on Pawley's Island. He relished with unabashed glee (and in no particular order) his family, a good pun, jazz, foreign cultures, sports, especially golf, all things fast, gardening, and his pets. He was a connoisseur of haute cuisine, fine wine and spirits, as comfortable with a spatula as a suture.
Gavin was born in England to Alfred Arthur Pape and Agnes Monteath. Raised in Scarborough Ontario he completed high school at Neil McNeil. He studied at the University of Toronto and graduated from Medicine in the Class of 1981. He spent 50 years working at the Scarborough General Hospital first as a teenaged orderly and subsequently as a family doctor and emergency physician.
Gavin will be dearly missed by his spouse Aisha Mjasiri and daughter Nana Mohamud, sons Justin and Naresh Pape, sister and brother-in-law Linda and Grant Davidson. He will be remembered fondly by Prem Lata Pape and the Maharaj family.
