RIFE, Robert "Bob" Arthur —On Sunday, March 20, 2016 Robert Rife died peacefully in his 88th year, surrounded by family at Scarborough General Hospital.Survived by his devoted wife Joan of 61 years, his loving children Brian (Tracy), Karen (Kevin) and Dan (Lisa). Dear "Bumpa" to Joseph, Dane, Mackenzie, Matthew, Erin, Josh and Troy.Dear brother of Joan Hicks (George) and William Corn. Brother-in-law to Wayne Patterson (Veronica), Dan McKenna and Jan Rife. Predeceased by his parents Roy Rife and Genevieve Corn, brother Donald Rife and sister Barbara McKenna.His journalism career began at the Oshawa Times Gazette; continued at the Sudbury Star, Canadian Press and The Toronto Telegram. He joined the Globe and Mail in 1965 where he served in the Sports Department; was Editor of the Outdoors section; then journeyed into ROB. He retired from The Globe and Mail with over 28 years of service. As a retiree he continued his writing through excerpts in books, magazines, church newsletters and clubs.He's a lifetime member of the Outdoor Writers of Canada and the Durham Computer Club.Family and friends will be received on Thursday, March 24th at 3 p.m. at Ogden Funeral Home, 4164 Sheppard Avenue East, Agincourt, with Memorial Service to follow in the Ogden Chapel at 4 p.m., then a reception from 5-7 p.m.Donations made to the Heart & Stroke Association would be appreciated by the family.
