Obituary of Theresa Bennett
Please share a memory of Theresa to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Theresa Bennett (Mama) was born January 21, 1926 in St. Mary, Jamaica to Gertrude and Justin Bennett. Theresa spent a portion of her life in Kingston, Jamaica working in Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Theresa spent her life taking care of her children and grandchildren. She was their doctor, psychologist and pastor. Mama had a remedy for every sickness from caster oil to herbal tea, to cleanse their system to keep disease from manifesting in their bodies. She used her biblical foundation and spiritual insight to correct their behavior. She did not spare the rod. As Mam always said: “All me have is my common sense.” Mama taught them basic skills: sewing, using knives and forks, washing, ironing, cooking and cleaning, skills that would later shape their lives in becoming men and women in nurturing their own children.
Theresa was Mama to her children Kermine Pryce, Cynthia Massey, Maureen Doherty, Rose Kraft, Angela Maddox, Marcia McLymout.
Theresa is survived by her dear grandchildren Cindia Ann Marie Fenton, Paulette Robinson, Clifford Powell, Lorraine Chin (Chinna), Wayne Powell, Richard Powell, Anthony Wolf, Tanya Russell, Malinda Lightbird, Falicia, Vanessa Chambers, O'Neil Gruber, Shivaune McLymont, Omar Davis, Raymond Norman and great-grandchildren.
