Bernard Sylvester Chin
September 14th, 1938 - July 6th 2015
Born in Kingston, Jamaica to the late Albert and Lily (Wong) Chin. Bernie died peacefully and with much dignity at Sunnybrook Health Science Centre, after a courageous 6-month battle with cancer and related liver problems, with his loving wife Rose (Chen) and three siblings (Yvonne Lyn, Jean Chin and Bev Chin) by his side. Sadly missed by his other siblings in Jamaica (Billy) and England (Vinette Chin).
Bernie will be lovingly remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews in Toronto, Montreal, Florida, London and Jamaica.
Also Bernie will be dearly missed by Rose's brother - Wayne Peter Chen and his wife Linda Cote and Rose's many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
He will be sadly missed by many dear friends in Toronto, Florida and Jamaica and especially those in the Chinese Jamaican community in Toronto, such as Tsin Tsung Ontario and Chinese Caribbean Association).
The two cherry trees and the three variety apple and pear trees that he planted are more bountiful than ever this year. They will be lovingly enjoyed by family and friends. His scotch bonnet peppers and callaloo will be sorely missed this year.
Bernie had many passions. He shared his love of technology, camera, words, books, music especially jazz and classic, film and English football with family and friends. A spirited independent thinker and a loyal and dedicated friend to many.
The family wishes to thank the many doctors, nurses and technicians at Sunnybrook Health Science Centre who tried their best to find a cure for Bernie's liver problems and those in D6 Wing, C2 Wing and especially those in Critical Care Unit for their outstanding care, compassion and kindness to both Bernie and his family. You all in your own way helped to bring comfort to Bernie through some challenging times.
