TAKAHASHI, Hideo - Passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2015, at Yee Hong Centre - Finch, age 95. Predeceased by his loving and devoted wife Fumiko Ruth (née Miyazaki). Caring father of Louise and Norma. Also predeceased by elder brother, baby Eita; sisters Kazuko (the late Kaoru) Atagi, Fumiko Frances (the late Kiyoshi Tom) Tsubouchi; niece Christine Atagi Hemphill and nephew Mark Bando. Fondly remembered by his siblings Akira John (the late Kathleen), Kiyoko Kay (the late Mits) Yamada, Toshio Stan (May) and Haruko Helen (the late Toshio) Bando; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Hideo was born in Britannia Mines, BC. After graduating from King Edward High School, he obtained a position with the Japanese consulate in Vancouver. During the Second World War he was interned in prisoner-of-war camps for four years. His book, P.O.W. In My Own Country, will be published posthumously. After the war, Hideo joined Canada Employment and Immigration Commission. He helped implement the federal government's then new social insurance number programme for Ontario. After 35 years of service, he retired as supervisor of insurance advisory services. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Joseph Wong for his vision, mu goi to the caring staff, domo arigato gozaimasu to the volunteers and thank you to his Yee Hong family for warm friendships shared. Resting at Ogden Funeral Home, 4164 Sheppard Ave. E., Scarborough (east of Kennedy Rd.). Visitation on Sunday, April 12th from 1 to 5 p.m. Honouring Hideo's wishes, the funeral service will be private. Interment at Highland Memory Gardens.
