BOWES, Margaret Ida (nee Empringham) - Passed at her home, Shepherd Lodge, on March 17, 2014 in the midst of family, conversation, prayer, tears and laughter. Born December 17, 1918 at home at Birchmount and Ellesmere to George Empringham and Minnie Craig. She was proud to be: wife of the late Reginald Bowes (1992). Mother of Diane Webber and David Bowes (Arlene Zock - deceased). Grandmother of Lisa Martin (Dan), Michelle Williams and Michael Webber (Kristi). Great-grandma to Katlyn Key (Andrew), Tyler Webber, Kristine Webber and Sarah Martin. Great-great-grandma to Ryan Key and Jordan Key. All were very much loved. Predeceased by sister Velma Francis (Bill), brother John (Jack) Empringham (Frances) and cousin Betty Chisholm (Empringham) who was very much a younger sister to her. Well know for their voices, Margaret and Velma sang at Church and events throughout the Scarborough area in their young years. Having lived all her 95 years here and with her family lineage being part of the tapestry of Scarborough, she was consulted many times about events, persons and places. Born and raised in the era of tight-knit communities where everyone knew or knew of each other and were there for help and support, she was always able to give or get the correct information. She compiled family histories on both the Empringham and Craig families and the history that she passed on to her family and friends will be documented for eternity. An over 50 year member of the Knox United Church Women's League, she wore her pins with pride. The family would like everyone at Shepherd Lodge to know how overwhelmingly grateful we are for the love, affectionate care and hours of attention she received. They truly made a safe and happy home for our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother Margaret. Friends and family will be received at the Ogden Funeral Home, 4164 Sheppard Avenue East, Scarborough on Thursday, March 20, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to be held in the Ogden Chapel Friday, March 21st at 11 a.m. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Canadian Cancer Society , Salvation Army or Knox United Church Women (UCW).
