Linda Ann Smith ( nee Moore)
Born June 28, 1946 in Hatfield House, outside of London, England
Died 8 AM, Wednesday January 8, 2014 in Lakeridge Health Oshawa, Canada
In 1949, Linda moved from the big city of London, England to a small village in south Wales, with her parents. She grew up there in Abercarn and has kept friendships with her school chums ever since.
In 1966, Linda moved to Toronto, Canada for a years working holiday. She stayed here. She ended up working for Imperial Life Insurance, on St. Clair until 1984 when she gave up the corporate life for more quiet time in Oshawa.
In June, 1977 Linda & Jerry Smith married, and bought his sisters house in Oshawa, where they're still living. Linda has made many improvements on the house to make it uniquely hers.
Linda's activities centered on her friends and family.
Her 18 year Watkins business grew to over 200 customers, many who became close friends. She enjoyed the benefits her customers found with the Watkins unique products.
Volunteer work included the Oshawa Choral Society and the 420 Wing. She was also a past member of the Scugog Womens Network.
Linda became picky. If she didn't want the workload, she wouldn't join the committee; but when you saw her working alongside you, you realized she worked hard and she had chosen to work with you.
Linda was an accomplished watercolour artist, and a gifted amateur photographer. She had an "Artistic Eye", which added to the beauty in the house and the front & back gardens. Her creative flair extended to the kitchen where she prepared many experimental dishes for dinners and parties.
Linda read mystery books, did puzzles, and took piano lessons. She was a fan of a few British TV shows (Heartbeat).
Her health took a turn for the worse in March 2013, when she fought off pancreatitus and had her gall bladder removed in a five hour operation. In late July, she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but was able to spend an additional five months with Jerry before she passed away.
" Linda is survived by her husband Jerry, her mother Daphne Moore, her brother Stephen(Maggie) and Brian (Darlene) , sisters-in-law Karen (Will), Joan (Gary), brother-in-law Danny (Bev) and nieces and nephews."
There will be a celebration of Linda's life on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the 420 (City of Oshawa) Wing, 1000 Stevenson Road North, Oshawa L1J 5P5 at 1 PM. (cremation has taken place)
