Obituary of Alma Tivy

Please share a memory of Alma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
ALMA MAY TIVY (née DUNPHY) Following a life of love and devotion to her family, friends and faith, it is with heavy hearts that the family of Alma M. Tivy announces the passing of their cherished and dearly loved mother, grandmother and great- grandmother on March 7, 2013. Alma is predeceased by her loving and devoted husband Norm. Born in the 1920s in Gananoque, Ontario, Alma was the eldest of 11 children born to Noel and Isabella Dunphy of the Kingston Islands. She is predeceased by her brothers Joe (Doris), Norman (Joyce), Howard (Betty), Orval (Jeannie), Wilfred and her sisters, Betty and Gloria (John). She is survived by her sisters Nadine (Neil), Virginia (James) and Madeline (Ken). During the Great Depression, Alma and her family relocated to Kingston, Ontario where she lived and worked until moving to Ottawa and Toronto after marrying Norm whom she met while he was serving in the military and attending Queen's University. Alma was known for her loving and caring nature as well as her youthful looks, attitude and outlook. She would not be defined by her age and certainly never spoke of it! Alma was proud of her Irish heritage, and true to her heritage, Alma loved to engage in lively political debates. Along with being politically active, Alma volunteered for a number of charities and was a long standing member of the IODE. Alma's greatest joy in life was first and foremost her family. She loved deeply, and was always proud of her children Randy (Beverly), Marni (Mark) and Shawn (Janet). She adored her grandchildren Adrienne, Nicole (Jon), Kimberley, Stephanie and Andrew, loving their visits and endless chats; she cherished her great- grandchildren April Rose and Kyle. Alma never lost touch with her Kingston roots and will be laid to rest with her beloved Norm near her parents and other family members at St. Mary's Cemetery in Kingston, Ontario. Family will receive friends at the Ogden Funeral Home, 4164 Sheppard Ave. East, on Monday, March 11th from 6 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass for Alma will be held at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 3526 Sheppard Ave. East on Tuesday, March 12th at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the IODE, Bridlewood Chapter in Alma's name would be appreciated. The children of Alma would like to give special thanks to Helen Serneo, Vinah Garcia and Marilyn Firmantes for the love and care given to their mother in recent years.
