Please share a memory of Donna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
DONNA MARION KERR (nee MITCHELL) After a courageous, year-long battle with cancer, it is with great sadness that we share the passing of Donna Marion Kerr on November 9, 2012 in Toronto. Beloved wife of Norman, adoring mother of John (Laura), Neil (Kim) and Elizabeth (Patrick) and extraordinarily proud grandmother of Danielle, Devin, Emma, Nathan, Benjamin and Joshua. Grandma Donna will forever be remembered as \"the best grandma in the world\" . Born in 1934 at Doctors Hospital in Toronto, Donna grew up in North Toronto where she developed a wonderful kinship with her best (and \"oldest\") friend Carol Rein (nee Salutin). After graduating from University of Toronto, Victoria College in 1957 with a BA in Psychology, she began her teaching career in the halls of John Ross Robertson Public School. In October 1961, Donna met her knight in shining armour, Norm. It was a blind date that ended magically. Norm's sense of humour and quick two-step swept her off her feet. Six months later they married and began to build Donna's greatest treasure: her family. Nothing made Donna happier than being surrounded by her children and grandchildren... a glass of red wine, a ray of sun and a political discussion were the cherries on top. Donna lived by the Golden Rule. The importance she placed on kindness, compassion and philanthropy are her legacy. She will be missed dearly by her family, her dear University friends, her wonderful comrades from Mary Shadd Public School, her loyal friends at \"the Fitness\", her fans in Bridlewood Community and her volunteer partners at the Red Cross, the Aphasia Society and Toronto's Youth Justice Coalition. Heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at North York General Hospital including Doctors Robson, Shetty, Ingber and Paupst, Social Workers Marsha and Melissa and the wonderful 3 West Nurses. We would also like to thank the wonderful team at Providence Healthcare and many of her PSWs, most notably Lyn Spooner. The family will receive guests between 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Ogden Funeral Home, 4164 Sheppard Ave. East, Toronto. Funeral Service will be held in the chapel on Friday at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
