ALEXANDER HENDRY FARQUHAR With sadness, the family of Alex Farquhar announces his passing on July 3, 2012 at Scarborough Grace Hospital, two weeks after celebrating his 95th birthday with his family. Alex was born on June 14, 1917 to Scottish immigrant parents in Toronto, the eldest of five children. He married Dorothy Sedgwick, the girl he invited to a Sunday school function, in 1942 just prior to joining the Canadian Army. Shortly after being discharged in 1944 they started their family and moved to Agincourt where Alex built the family home they would live in for the next 48 years. Alex dedicated 41 years of his life to the Canadian Postal Service, working on the mail trains while Dorothy raised four children at home. Alex loved to work with his hands, solve crossword puzzles, read books and the newspaper and seemed to remember everything he read. He remained interested and well informed of current events until his death. Woodworking, carving, winemaking, baking, travel and the family cottage at Waubaushene occupied much of his leisure time. He was an active member of Knox United Church for many years and missed the connections there when he became less mobile. Alex was a dedicated and loving husband to the late Dorothy (2007) and father to Susan (David Wakefield), the late Bruce, James and Donald (Bonnie Breadner), Poppa to Jessica, Robert, Alexandra, Riley, Molly, Jason and the late Kennith and \"Big Poppa\" to Kei, Kim, Toby, Connor, Elizabeth, Jory, Kenni and Shine. Alex was a lovely, gentle man, that loved nothing more than laughter at a cottage gathering. We will all miss him. Visitation will be held at the OGDEN FUNERAL HOME, 4164 Sheppard Ave. E., Agincourt (east of Kennedy Rd.) on Monday from 12:30-1:30 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service in the Ogden Chapel at 1:30 p.m. If desired, a memorial donation to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or Knox United Church in Agincourt would be appreciated
