Obituary of Mr. Yasunari Shinde
SHINDE, Yasunari (Yas)
Yasunari Shinde, 87, passed away on May 16, 2022, at the Yee Hong Centre in Toronto.
Yas was born on June 26, 1934, in Steveston, B.C. During the war, his family was interned in Greenwood, B.C. In his youth, his teachers, family, and friends remember Yas as intelligent and independent, with strong opinions, all attributes that persisted throughout his life.
Some of Yas’s fondest memories came from the time he worked in forestry, his first job. He then moved to Toronto, where he met and married Michiko in 1963. They had two children, Deanna and Douglas, and raised them in their Scarborough home where they have lived for over 50 years.
After obtaining his CPA, he worked as a comptroller for several companies until his retirement.
Over the years, Yas, Mich and the family took many trips, travelling back to B.C. and Alberta to visit relatives and friends. His love of family continued later in life with the great affection he had for his grandsons.
He kept active with sports, enjoying curling and tennis with Mich, and golf, well into his senior years. Very sociable, even in his final year spent in hospitals and long-term care, he was eager to chat and joke with everyone he met.
He is predeceased by his father Kichitaro, mother Yoshie, and siblings George, Susumu, Richard, Nora, and Anthony. Missing him are wife Michiko, son Douglas, daughter Deanna (Patrik), grandsons Aki and Toyo, siblings Tad, Seishi, William (Willena), Marcy, Sumi (Peter) and Lily, and many in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Sat., May 21 at 3:00 – 5:00 pm at Ogden Funeral Home, 4164 Sheppard Ave. East.
