JOHN THOMAS NORONHA

December 27th, 1946 – February 11th, 2022

John was born in Karachi, Pakistan, the fifth of 6 Children, born to Manuel and Salvacao Noronha.

He was raised in a loving family with very humble beginnings.  His parents were God-fearing and worked very hard to support their large family.   John was very close to his loving mother who was a wonderful, caring, thoughtful and selfless person.  John inherited these very same traits of her which touched so many people's hearts.

John's early education was at St. Patrick's High School and later completed his inter-commerce college education.

When John was very young, he was stricken with Paralysis of the face.  Prior to this, he was not very religious and didn't go to church often.  After this happened, he prayed very hard and his prayers were answered.  He was very grateful for his cure and was transformed to living a more prayerful and God-fearing life.  He was a man of great faith and would start and end the day with pray no matter how tired he was.  He was faithful to our Lord Jesus till the very end and never complained or questioned God when something bad happened to him.  He bore his sufferings patiently and quietly.

He loved helping others in whatever way he could whether it was giving folks rides, cooking yummy meals and/or visiting friends and relatives who are sick or in long term care homes.   He was also the bartender at every party he was invited too and would willingly and automatically help out at the bar.  He would make sure all guests had something to drink.   Everyone is going to miss him for sure making their respective "drinks."  He was a man whose mission on earth was to serve rather than be served which he did well, enjoyed and was happy to do it.

He married his sweetheart, Thrasilla on Jan 11th, 1981 in Karachi.  He was a very loving, caring and thoughtful husband/father who put hers and his family needs first.  He was very open and had a good communication with his wife which is very important in a marriage.  They celebrated 41 years of marital bliss and have two lovely children, Anne-Marie and Joshua who joined our family in 2001 and 2002 respectively. They filled the emptiness in his life and brought him great joy.  He loved them unconditionally and was there for them always in good times and bad.  He also loved our dog, Koda who joined our family 5 years ago. They were best pals and inseparable.  He wanted so much to see Koda when he was in the hospital but didn't get a chance to do so which we regret so much.  John also was the main cook in the family and made sure we had meals on the table.  He loved cooking Pakistani and Goan dishes for us.  His favourite dish was fish curry and rice.

He was a proud and loving Godfather to Giselle Noronha and Ashton Fernandes.

He worked at Gymkhana for many years and later moved to Saudi Arabia to work at Dumez, a French Construction Company.  He was a great fan of cricket and loved to watch all the matches on TV whenever it was telecasted.  He also loved to watch Pakistani TV shows, movies and kept up with what was happening there by listening to the news in Urdu.  He was a true Pakistani till the end.  He also loved listening to country music, the Bee Gees, Michael Jackson, Glen Campbell, etc. John was a body builder and loved to work out at the Gym till he could no longer due to his illness.

In August 1993, we emigrated to Canada. He worked at Glen Oaks and later at CIBC for 25 years.   He retired in September 2020 but didn't get a chance to enjoy his retirement as he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia on February 2021.

While in hospital and seriously ill, he tried to reach out and speak to as many people he could as he knew he didn't have long to live. He battled this awful disease gracefully, courageously and fought till the end for his family and himself.

God had other plans and he peacefully passed away on the feast of our Lady of Lourdes, Feb 11th, 2022.  He was devoted to our Lady and went to his heavenly abode on her feast day and is now in the clouds with her.  I am sure they are all having a welcome party for him with his family, relatives and friends and he is the bartender.

Rest in eternal peace beloved, gentle and caring John

He is deeply missed by his loving wife, Thrasilla, his children, Anne-Marie and Joshua and grandson, Koda as well as his extended family and friends.  We are thankful that John is now with Jesus today and that we will be reunited with him one day in Heaven.
