It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barbara (Dey) Washburn, a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, who left this world peacefully on June 20, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on August 13, 1938, in Toronto, Ontario, Barbara was the cherished daughter of Alexander and Ethel Dey. She was a beacon of joy and kindness throughout her life, touching the hearts of all who knew her.
Barbara was predeceased by her loving parents, her brothers Arthur and Alexander, her sister Annette, and her dear son Stephen. Her legacy of love and warmth continues through her surviving family, including her sister Margaret, devoted daughters Jacqueline (Carl), Carolyn (Dennis), and Josephine (David). Her grandchildren, Jordan (Jesse), Jacob (Jesmyne), Nathan (Rachel), Dylan (Katrina) and Hailey, along with her great-grandchildren, Ewan and Charlie, were the pride and joy of her life.
An avid sports enthusiast, Barbara’s passion for athletics was evident as she actively participated in swimming, diving, volleyball, baseball, and bowling. Her love for the Toronto Blue Jays was well-known, and her spirited antipathy for the Red Sox was a source of amusement amongst her family. She found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was basking in the sun or tending to the garden. Her generous heart and willingness to help others were hallmarks of her character, as was her infectious laughter and love for socializing.
Barbara’s life was a testament to the power of kindness and generosity. Her presence brightened every room. She carried a deep love for her family and took immense pride in their accomplishments and happiness.
The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Rockcliffe Long Term Care Facility for their unwavering kindness and patience in caring for Barbara.
As we celebrate the life of this remarkable woman, we remember her not only for her vibrant spirit and unwavering love but also for the legacy of warmth and compassion that she leaves behind. Barbara’s memory will forever remain in our hearts, a guiding light of love and happiness.
