Celebrating the life of

Gerlie Cabato Mendoza

September 20, 1963 – January 31, 2026

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Gerlie Cabato Mendoza, age 62 — a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, godmother, cousin, and friend. She passed away peacefully in hospital, surrounded by many of those who loved her.

Gerlie was born in the Philippines and immigrated to Canada in 1982. She was known for her fierce, loving, outgoing, and independent spirit. Gerlie cherished time spent with family and friends and always led with authenticity, laughter, and kindness. She especially loved tending to her flowers in the garden and playing games—whether bingo, cards, or heading to the casino late at night. Her perseverance in overcoming any obstacle placed in her way was truly unmatched and never failed to leave others in awe.

Predeceased by her parents Godofredo and Lucena and her brother Sofronio, Gerlie is survived by her six siblings: Marcelina, Teresita, Riza, Rowen, Henry, and Mechyl; her nephews Dexter, Dennis, Justin, Jason, Jonathan, and Raeden; and her nieces Edlyn, Sheryl, Christine, and Raenelle. She was wonderful with children and was chosen as a godmother to many. Gerlie also leaves behind cousins, extended family, friends, and colleagues who were deeply touched by her kindness, strength, and generous spirit. She will be remembered for the love she shared so freely, the laughter she brought into every room, and the many meaningful connections she made throughout her life. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
