Obituary of Lorna C. Corniffe
It is with deep sorrow and abiding love that we announce the passing of Lorna C. Corniffe (née Brown), who departed this life on May 7, 2025. Lorna lived a long, full, and resilient life, leaving behind a legacy defined by strength, determination, and the truest, most selfless love.
Born on October 19 in Kingston, Jamaica, Lorna was known for her spirited nature, her unwavering devotion to family, and her deep sense of purpose. She was predeceased by her beloved parents, Iris and Fredrick Brown; her sister, Marylyn Amiel (née Brown); her brother, Ewan Brown; and her cherished niece, Shannon White.
Lorna is survived by her two devoted sons, Christopher and Michael; her three treasured grandchildren, Tayah, Justin, and Gia; her loving siblings—Jean, Joyce, Annette, Maureen, Richard, and Grace—as well as a large and loving circle of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.
An art enthusiast with an ear for classical music, ABBA, and musical theatre, Lorna found joy in the simple pleasures of life. As Jamaicans would say, she loved to “walk street”—often making several visits a day to her favorite places within her community, and occasionally, to Casino Rama. Her adventurous spirit even led her back to Jamaica and to the United States to spend time with loved ones.
Lorna was the proud matriarch of her family—steadfast, nurturing, and always present. She never missed a chance to uplift her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She led her family with grace, honour, resilience, and deep compassion—but above all, with love. In her later years, her grandchildren became the light of her life and the joy of her days.
In 2011, Lorna suffered a stroke that profoundly changed her life. Yet, through every challenge, she faced each day with courage and faith. Over the last 14 years, she became a beloved part of the Baycrest Hospital community, where she received exceptional care and where, surrounded by love, she peacefully passed away.
We, Lorna’s family, extend our heartfelt gratitude to the entire Baycrest community for the kindness, compassion, and unwavering support shown to her and to all of us throughout the years.
A celebration of Lorna’s remarkable life will take place on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Ogden Funeral Home. All family and friends are warmly invited to join us in honouring a woman who touched so many lives with her love and strength.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Baycrest Foundation, in honour of Lorna’s journey and legacy.
