Mr. Kenneth Spracklin

Obituary of Mr. Kenneth Leroy Spracklin

Please share a memory of Mr. Kenneth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Kenneth Leroy Spracklin was born August 25, 1932, in Toronto, the second son after Gordon, to Eric and Harriett Spracklin.
He grew up and went to school in North Toronto before joining the family’s butcher business. After a few years, he embarked on a career with Ontario Hydro, where he worked for 42 years. It was a journey that he said could not be completed today – he started in the mail room without a university degree and finished as the Director of Personnel for the Design & Construction Division. He was always grateful for the opportunities and people that gave him a chance based on his performance.
It was at Hydro participating in the bowling league where he met his beloved wife, Helen.  They were married on September 6, 1958, and moved to Agincourt where they lived in the same home until just a few years ago. A family followed, Douglas (Debbie) and Dianne (Paul). Ken was a dedicated and supportive father.  He was a member of Knox United Church in Agincourt for many years, ushering and serving on several different committees. Most notably, he led the Cemetery Committee for many years. Upon retirement, after some initial trepidation, he embraced that time in his life – he took up curling, golfed regularly and he and Helen travelled together.  However, no place brought him more joy than to be “at the cottage” where he could tinker around and enjoy “the occasional 40 winks.”  Ken could be quiet but was especially proud of his grandchildren, Jill and Darren Elliott, and Sarah and Ian Spracklin. He and Helen hosted many large family gatherings both at their home and their cottage.  It was not uncommon to find him sitting quietly in his favourite chair, watching the kids play, with a big smile on his face.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

For those who wish, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
