Mama Ofie is beautiful inside out….with a heart of gold. A good tree bears good fruit. That’s how I became friends with her children. They are precious gems like her.
I will never forget when the whole family visited our place in Muskoka for summer overnights and mama Ofie would talk to my statue dog. She thought it’s real. That made me laugh so hard. She would wake up early to check everybody, with make up on, ready for the day. Then she would play the piano. So sweet!
My last acquaintance with her in Leo’s place just two months ago was an unforgettable memory. The smile on her face, says “Don’t worry, I’m okay”.
We love you mama Ofie! We will surely miss your pleasant smile and calm voice.
“It’s not goodbye, it’s until we meet again”

I first met Lola Ofie years ago when I was asked to pick her up nearby. I had no idea what she looked like, only that she was around 80 years old. As I stood there waiting, she approached me without a word, held my arm, and I instinctively carried her bag. Surprisingly our conversation flowed naturally, as if we had known each other forever. It wasn’t awkward at all, maybe because I grew up with my grandma and saw Lola Ofie as my own. She was warm, lighthearted, and easy to be around. We lived with her for more than a year, and all she ever showed us was kindness. Most of our fondest memories were shared at the dining table, I will ask her about her past jobs, stories from her younger days, and what foods were good or bad to eat. She was very strict about cooking oil,she will say dont buy those cooking oil in the market, always insisting on canola, which is still our first choice today.I often asked how she remained so beautiful at her age and she would always laugh and say "Vegetables."since then we tried our best to keep vegetable or atleast fish at the table.
Writing this brings tears to my eyes maybe we all miss Lola Ofie in our own way. There are no words to express how much gratitude we owe her. We were blessed to see her one last time and say our goodbyes, which made the news a little easier to bear. It’s sad, but cora and I are at peace knowing that Lola was ready and had accepted her fate. I prayed and will continue to pray for her to rest in peace.

We have known Tita Ofie when we were newbie here in Canada through Kuya Jhong and Ate Raquel. We instantly clicked as we have a lot in common.. She as a former DOH MD and us as PGH nurses, both public servants in the Philippines. She as a former Ms Battad, and I having a sister-in-law who is incidentally a Battad as well. Both roots hailed in Ilocos Sur. Above all, a Marcos loyalist. The moment she learned my maiden name she instantly lightened my grayed mood. She would tell me stories about the good old regime. My first impression was, “a face that can launch a thousand cure..” Yes, she is Helena clothed in white, just looking at her gives you the comfort and calmness you long for.. She was not only gifted with a beautiful face but a kind heart.. Always welcoming, smiling and comforting. She makes feel everyone somebody.
Tita Ofie, it was an honour knowing you and your family. We are blessed to have you and your family as our second family. Thank you for adopting, assisting, and supporting our family all the way. We will surely miss you. Rest in peace, Tita. Til we meet again.
To your family, our prayers and deepest sympathy in this darkest moment. To Ate Leah and family, Kuya Jhoji, and of course to Kuya Jhong, Ate Raquel, Kiara and Kyle as well to the greatgrand dogs.. our love and hugs of comfort.

Q: How did you meet Dr. Ofelia?
A: We came to know Mama Ofelia thru her daughter, Leah (a good friend of ours).
She was a wonderful person. She was very proud of her three children’s accomplishments and loving grandmother to her grandchildren. We enjoyed our time with her during summer BBQ lunch/dinner at Leah and Nilo’s home.
We are truly blessed and honoured to have known Mama Ofelia.
May you, Leah, Jojie, Jhong, Raquel and the rest of Alialy family find solace and strength in the memories you all shared.
We will miss you, Mama Ofelia ❤️

I remember those days having lunch with you at seafood city, spending time with you at Edward Garden and walking around various parks together. No matter where you are you’ll always be a mommy to me and I will always cherish those memories with you.

My condolences to the family. Madamme was always kind hearted and soft matured. She made me feel included from the beginning, always offering kindness and love. She is a spiritualist as well as a scientist, to which I really appreciated. I cherish her laugh and her smile, her sense of fashion and her love to everyone she met. She is a special soul and she will be missed. As we say in French, Vous me Marquez Madamme and Je vous aime. With love, may your family find solace and peace and healing in these times. Blessings, Alain Grenon
